For over four decades, Guy Edrington has distinguished himself as a versatile and sought-after French horn artist across North America and Europe. A recognized Performing Artist for Conn-Selmer, Guy is defined by his profound musicality, unwavering reliability, and adaptable skill in every setting—from the orchestra pit and recording studio to the classroom.

A Pillar of the Musical Community

Guy maintains a dynamic presence in the music world through key roles with several esteemed ensembles:

  • (Principal Horn) Ottawa Chamber Players (Principal Horn), including performances for the Music and Beyond Festival.

  • OperaOttawa (Principal Horn)

  • The Maple Leaf Horn Quartet, which has been featured in four national broadcasts across the United States and Canada.

  • The Avalon Trio (Horn, Voice, Flute, and Guitar), which brings music directly to the community through performances for Concerts in Care programs for seniors.

  • Capital Remote Sessions (Session Hornist)

His dedication to building the horn community is further demonstrated by his initiative in founding the Ottawa French Horn Club.

A Legacy of Leadership on Stage

Guy’s career is highlighted by significant principal horn positions and diverse performing experiences that showcase his endurance and artistry. His notable engagements include:

  • A celebrated two-year tenure as Principal Horn for the acclaimed production of Les Misérables at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre.

  • International tours across the U.S., Canada, and Europe as Principal Horn with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and a tour of South America with the Zephyr Woodwind Quintet.

  • Seven seasons as Principal Horn of the Thunder Bay Symphony, where he was featured as a soloist on three occasions.

  • Hornist for the Shaw Festival.

As a soloist, he has been featured on CBC Radio and in concerts across the continent.

Guy’s distinctive sound and technical command were forged through studies with some of the most influential horn pedagogues of our time.

His primary mentors include:

  • Froydis Ree Wekre (Oslo, Norway)

  • Dr. William Capps (Florida State University)

  • Eugene Rittich (Former Principal Horn, Toronto Symphony)

  • Kendall Betts (Former Principal Horn, Minnesota Orchestra)

He has further refined his artistry in masterclasses or lesson or lessons with legendary figures including Barry TuckwellPhilip Farkas, Erich Penzel and Vitaly Bujanovsky

A Commitment to the Next Generation

A dedicated educator, Guy is passionate about sharing his knowledge with aspiring hornist. In addition to maintaining a private teaching studio, he is frequently invited to lead masterclasses, such as for the Ontario Honors Band.

He has held institutional teaching positions at:

  • The Royal Conservatory (Toronto)

Holding a degree in Music Education from Florida State University, he is committed to nurturing the technical proficiency and artistic expression of every student.
